Transport Information

Melbourne trams are just one way to get around.A ticket to the Commonwealth Games is also your ticket to ride Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses for the day.

There is no public parking at major Games venues, so leave the car at home and catch public transport to the Games.

All Games venues are accessible by public transport. During the Games there will be more public transport services more often. An additional 28,000 public transport services will be in place. Extended late night services will also operate.

Games ticket holders are entitled to travel free on Melbourne’s metropolitan public transport on the date shown on Games tickets. This means all trains, trams and buses that accept Metcards (Melbourne’s public transport tickets).

Games ticket holders are also entitled to a special offer on regional rail and coach services. Spectators can travel on V/Line services for no more than $10 return anywhere in Victoria on the day before, the day of, and the day after a Games event upon presentation of a valid Games ticket. Bookings are essential. Contact V/Line on 136 196 for more details.

Avoid Travelling During Peak Periods

Hosting the biggest event in Victoria’s history means Melbourne will be busier than usual. Games spectators will be sharing public transport with regular commuters.

Plan, be patient and allow plenty of time to reach your destination during the Games. Where possible, avoid travelling during the morning (7am – 9.30am) and evening (4pm – 7pm) peaks.
