Weightlifting

The Weightlifting competition is expected to be hard fought and will feature the Commonwealth’s best lifters in tense competition.

The nine days of competition at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre will see sixteen gold medals will be on offer for men’s and women’s competition across 16 divisions, including the Men's Powerlifting for Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD).

The Weightlifting contest will take place under the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation, with each competitor (except EAD Powerlifters) given three attempts to complete both snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with their best performance in both movements added together to determine the final placement within the competition.

Men's EAD Powerlifting will be a single open category event encompassing all weight categories, in which athletes compete lying on their back and must complete a successful bench press within two minutes.
