Docklands Precinct
The Walks will be held in the Docklands Precinct. Melbourne Docklands is a world-class waterfront location. The Race Walk events will be held on the water’s edge at stunning Victoria Harbour and New Quay. These events, because of the distance and the discipline involved, are an emotional as well as a physical challenge.

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
The Melbourne Cricket Ground, or the 'G' as it's affectionately known by Melburnians, is recognised as one of the world's great sporting stages. The home of sport in Australia, the MCG featured in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. It is where much of the drama in Melbourne, including both Opening and Closing Ceremonies, will unfold in 2006.
Only a 10-minute walk from Melbourne's city centre, the MCG will host the Track and Field events, incorporating events for Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD) and the start and finish of the Marathon. The Marathon will wind its way around the city of Melbourne, taking in some of the city's major tourist attractions. The roar from the fans when they are together at the 'G' has to be heard to be believed - it is one of the great sensations in world sport.
An international-standard, eight-lane synthetic track will be installed on the MCG arena surface, together with all jump and field event areas. The sprint straight will have the recommended minimum nine lanes.
Construction is underway and some parts are already complete for the redevelopment of the Northern Stand. These new state-of-the-art facilities will be completed for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
