This weekend's Marathon and Triathlon events are a great opportunity to bring family and friends to watch elite athletes in action, at no cost.

Olympic gold medallist Hamish Carter and silver medallist Bevan Docherty will be competing in the Men’s Triathlon on Saturday afternoon.

The Triathlon will take place on Saturday along Melbourne’s famous St Kilda foreshore, affording spectators plenty of free viewing space along the length of the course.

The Women's Triathlon race is scheduled to start at 9.00am, and the Men's Triathlon starts at 12.30pm. Both races should be completed within two hours.

On Sunday, the Men's and Women's Marathons will be conducted over a 42.195km course starting and finishing at the MCG but passing through East Melbourne, Carlton, Parkville, Docklands, South Melbourne, St Kilda and Port Melbourne. The events are scheduled to start at 9.00am.

Other free events for spectators are the Men's and Women's 20km Walks in the Docklands Precinct on Monday morning 20 March, and the Men's 50km Walk on Friday morning 24 March in Docklands.

Cycling events will be held around the Royal Botanic Gardens in South Yarra on Tuesday 21 March and Sunday 26 March.

Some roads will be closed as a result of these major events and traffic may face long delays in some areas. Spectators and residents are all strongly urged to make the most of increased public transport services.

You'll need to allow plenty of time for your journey, and a Metcard will be required to access public transport for the free road events.
