In a tense five match struggle, India overcame Singapore to win the gold medal in the Men’s Table Tennis Teams final while Singapore easily accounted for Australia in the Women’s Table Tennis Teams final.

Singapore raised its hopes of winning gold in both the Men’s and Women’s finals by winning the first two matches against India.

But India fought back to win the next three matches to claim the gold, relegating Singapore to silver.

Nigeria, spearheaded by reigning singles champion, Segun Toriloa, proved too strong for Wales to take the bronze medal.

Singapore easily defeated Australia in the Women’s Table Tennis Teams Final to win the gold medal – a repeat performance of the outcome in Manchester four years ago.

Singapore beat Australia 3-nil in Manchester and turned in a similar performance in Melbourne to win its first gold medal of the Melbourne Games.

India held off a tenacious Canada to win the bronze medal.
