England's Peter Nicol will
compete with compatriot Lee
Beachill in the Men's Doubles
gold medal match.
The Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Doubles medals will all be decided on day 11 of the Games as the Squash competition comes to an end.
The Mixed Double's competition is the first to kick-off at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre.
Number three seeds of the Mixed Doubles Natalie Grinham and Joseph Kniepp of Australia will face the number four seeds, Vicky Botwright and James Willstrop of England for the gold, while number one seeds Rachael Grinham and David Palmer will play the number two seeds, Shelley Kitchen and Glen Wilson of New Zealand for the bronze.
The Women’s Doubles will follow the mixed competition.
Number one seeds Rachael and Natalie Grinham will face the number two seeds, Shelley Kitchen and Tamsyn Leevey of New Zealand in the gold medal match, with the Grinham pair looking extremely hard to bet against.
The bronze medal play-off is between the English pair of Tania Bailey and Vicky Botwright versus New Zealand’s Louise Crome and Lara Petera. The Kiwi pair have been playing excellent Squash during this tournament, narrowly losing out to compatriots Kitchen and Leevey in the Semi Final and will start as the favourites to take home the bronze.
The Men’s Doubles bronze and gold medal matches will then conclude the Games Squash competition.
In the bronze medal play off, Australian’s Dan Jenson and David Palmer will face young Kiwis Campbell Grayson and Martin Knight who upset number four seeds Nick Matthew and James Willstrop in the Quarter Finals, before losing to the number one seeds, Australia’s Stewart Boswell and Anthony Ricketts in the Semi Finals.
Jenson and Palmer look good for the bronze medal in this match.
Finally, Boswell and Ricketts will be confident of a gold medal to finish off their Games campaign, when they face number two seeds Lee Beachill and Peter Nicol of England.
Boswell and Ricketts, who received a walk over in one of their pool matches, should be fairly fresh with neither of them having competed in the Mixed Doubles, or advanced past the Quarter Final stages in the Men’s Singles.
Beachill and Nicol have played outstanding squash over the past ten days. It should be an enthralling match with their methodical, grinding style of play contrasting strongly with the Australian’s attacking and risky shots.
