Men's Squash final at MSAC.

England's Peter Nicol has claimed his second Commonwealth Games Squash Singles gold medal after defeating Australia's top seed David Palmer last night in four thrilling games.

With each rallying strongly, the match became a show of strength, going down to the wire in four hard fought games, 9-5 10-8 4-9 9-2.

Playing at a frantic pace Nicol gave nothing away and claimed the first set, and took it up to a hard hitting Palmer. But Nicol displayed incredible court coverage sending Palmer to every corner of the court and finally gaining the edge and winning the second 10-8.

A revitalised Palmer turned the tide in the third and had Nicol scurrying around the court and kept his gold medal hopes alive when he reversed the trend of play to take the third set 9-5.

Whilst Palmer fought valiantly, Nicol’s strength and courage was too much. Palmer could not reverse the pattern of play in the fourth, and was finally forced to settle for the silver medal.
