Treasurer and Co-Founder of the Yamba Buccaneers Junior Rugby Union Football Club, Mr Doug Anderson, said he was very pleased to be awarded the winning prize for helping to promote the Games.

“The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be a great event for all Australians and our club is happy to do our part to promote the Games in our community of about 5,000 people," said Mr Anderson.

“Our small rugby club in the country was established in 1974. We currently have over 200 members and the prize money will go a long way to help us further develop the junior development program by purchasing necessary equipment and assisting players at junior representative level.

"Our Club is also committed to improving the public canteen and toilet facilities at the ground which will absorb most of our current funding,” added Mr Anderson.

The Sports Pack Promotion was held from 1 March – 29 April 2005 and was open to all registered Australian sporting associations. Over 700 entries were received by the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation from sporting clubs throughout Australia.

Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Officer Mr John Harnden said he was grateful to the Australian sporting associations who entered the competition.

“We continue to be overwhelmed by the support sporting bodies throughout Australia are showing us. Congratulations to the Yamba Buccaneers Junior Rugby Union Football Club and we thank them for their support of the Games,” said Mr Harnden.
