Marathon

City and Surrounds

“To be able to run the Commonwealth Games Marathon around some of the best sights and precincts our city has to offer will be fantastic, highlighted even more by the fact that I get to run in front of my family, friends and home crowd.” - Lee Troop, 2004 Olympian.

The Marathon course will take in some of the most famous Melbourne locations and landmarks including the MCG, the city, its cosmopolitan precincts, the foreshore, parks and the Yarra River. The Marathon is a classic sporting event – a 42.195km test of endurance and determination.

  • The Men's and Women's Marathon will start at the MCG. The runners will complete a 12km lap of the city, heading north to Carlton and west through Docklands, before heading out to St Kilda. They will complete a lap of the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit, before making their way back to the city, along Beaconsfield Parade, Bay Street and City Road. They will then travel along Crown and Southbank Promenades, Alexandra Avenue, over Princes Bridge and through Birrarung Marr before finishing at the MCG.
