Australia and New Zealand will feature in a highly anticipated battle.

Australia and New Zealand will feature in a highly anticipated battle.

Four members of New Zealand’s Netball team which won a silver medal at the last Commonwealth Games will return to Games competition in Melbourne, hoping to cement their position as World Champions and pick up the gold.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee and Netball New Zealand have confirmed the twelve players to compete in Melbourne, with coach Ruth Aitken retaining the side that comprehensively beat Australia, Jamaica and Barbados in recent weeks.

Adine Wilson will captain the team that includes Irene van Dyk, Belinda Colling, Anna Rowberry and Vilimaina Davu from the 2002 Commonwealth Games team.

Ms Rowberry and Ms Colling will be making their third Games appearance, looking for revenge on the Australian side which cost them gold in Manchester and Kuala Lumpur.

New Zealand Olympic Committee Secretary General Barry Maister believes it is a very strong side that has been named.

"This group has shown real quality in the way they’ve gone about their business this season," he said. "There is a good mix of experience and youth in this side and I feel confident they will perform to the very best of their ability in Melbourne."

The New Zealand Commonwealth Games Netball team is:

Belinda Colling

Vilimaina Davu

Leana de Bruin

Temepara George (vice captain)

Laura Langman

The Commonwealth Games Netball competition will take place at the State Netball and Hockey Centre from 17-24 March, with finals at the Multi-Purpose Venue on 25 and 26 March.
