The Rhythmic Gymnastics competition commenced today with Canada establishing a strong leading position early, and going on to win gold. Malaysia picked up the silver as the Australian team claimed bronze.
Making its return to the Commonwealth Games after eight years, Rhythmic Gymnastics has mesmerised audiences with the creative and skilful routines performed today. Gymnasts compete in four apparatus - ball, ribbon, clubs and hoop.
After qualifying first in all four apparatus and helping her country win gold, Canada’s Alexandra Orlando said, "Right now I am just really happy with the team.
"It is so important that we won - it has been so long since Canada has been on top. Our win is beyond words," she said.
The All-Around competition will be decided on Saturday and Individual Apparatus finals will be held on Sunday.
