A diverse squad of Track and Field athletes, bowlers and boxers will carry Botswana's Games hopes in Melbourne - along with a lone Gymnastics debutant.

Kutlwano Mothibi will be Botswana’s first ever gymnast to appear at the Commonwealth Games.

He returns to Australia after being his country's sole representative at the 2005 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, also held in Melbourne. That visit saw Mothibi ranked 38th after the qualification round.

Mothibi's individual appearance will see him tackling Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Parallel Bars and his favourite discipline - Horizontal Bars.

Botswana will be also be looking to 51kg boxer Lechedzani Luza to improve on the silver medal he brought home from Manchester.

In Athletics, the 4 x 400m Relay runner Johnson Kubisa said he was confident his team would finish in the top eight.

“Commonwealth Games are full of surprises, anything can happen," Kubisa told the Botswana Daily News. "Given our training, I am positive that we will bring home something special."
