Anna and Kerry Meares share
the podium with silver medallist,
Victoria Pendleton from England.
Anna and Kerry Meares were in absolute agreement in paying homage to the crowds at the indoor track cycling centre after the pair won gold and bronze respectively last night.
This morning whilst being interviewed they virtually said the same thing when asked about the crowd noise. “You can’t hear yourselves breathe,” they said in unison. “You could not hear anything but the crowd, but that was great because they are a well educated crowd who know their cycling.”
Anna went on to say “I had to chase down a Games record set just minutes before to win gold, I knew I must have been in front of the time clock, because supporters were just going ballistic, it lifted me."
The crowd was right of course and she went on to set a Games record and take the gold, with sister Kerry collecting bronze.
Kerry was until last night the reigning Commonwealth Games champ, but was philosophical about the loss to her sister.
She said that it was almost three years since riding in that event, and was proud to wear the bronze medallion and step up onto the podium with Anna.
