Track champion Ben Kersten won
his first Commonwealth Games
medal in the 1,000m Time Trial.
Ben Kersten has added to Australia’s success at the cycling track with a gold medal in the 1,000m Time Trial.
In a time of 1:01.815, Kersten claimed his first Commonwealth Games medal and shaved almost a full second off his Manchester Time Trial, which placed him fourth at that event.
"I have had a lot of time off with a back injury and this event takes a lot of ground work and preparation and that was playing in the back of my mind, but this crowd was awesome," exclaimed Kersten.
"I'd like to think I could win anywhere at any venue but you can't beat that."
Gold only just eluded England’s Jason Queally, who raced a time of 1:01.849. Scotland’s Chris Hoy claimed the bronze with a time of 1:02.071.
