Athletics action on day six of the Games has sprung from the blocks at a sensational pace, with medals spread across the Commonwealth. Twelve competitors have leaped into the Men’s Long Jump Final with the top jumpers recording personal best times in the Qualifying rounds. Day two of the Athletics competition was highlighted by the triple medal victories for Australia in both the Men’s and Women’s 20km walk. Jamaica has won gold in the prestigious men’s and women’s 100 metres finals at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Kenya’s 19 year old Augustine Choge has set a new Commonwealth Games record in the Men’s 5000m final. Australia’s Brooke Krueger has set a Commonwealth Games record to win the gold medal in the Women’s Hammer Throw final. Nigeria has claimed gold and silver in the Final of the Women's Seated Shot Put, as Njideka Iyiazi took gold and team-mate Virginia Ohagwu won silver. Defending champion Nathan Deakes smashed four and a half minutes off his Games record, to win the Men's 20km Walk. Guernsey’s Dale Garland is off to a flying start in the first two events of the Men’s Decathlon, posting a 70 point lead over his nearest rival. Hayley Tullett of Wales has qualified fastest for the Finals of the Women's 1500m, ahead of Canadian Carmen Hussar.
