Australia ends on the top of the medal tally but surprises and gritty performances from unexpected champions made the Swimming at the Games a truly memorable event. On the last night of the Swimming competition, Wales has shown it's a force to be reckoned with in the 1500m Freestyle, while South Africa claims the sprint title. Day six in the pool started with a splash, the Women's 200m Butterfly setting a cracking pace and the Australian Women's Relay team smashing a world record. When Ryan Pini swam to victory in the Men’s 100m Butterfly, he won Papua New Guinea’s second Commonwealth Games gold medal in 16 years. With the heats over for today, this evening's Swimming is looking hot. Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medallist and current S9 world record holder Matthew Cowdrey of Australia has continued his dominance in the pool. Scotland put up a fight in the pool with the women adding gold and bronze to their collection. Papua New Guinea has won its first gold medal, with a win in the pool. Ahead of tonight’s Final, England’s Joanne Jackson has qualified fastest in the Women’s 400m Freestyle heats. Australia’s Joanna Fargus has qualified fastest in the heats of the Women’s 200m Backstroke, ahead of New Zealand’s Melissa Ingram and England’s Melanie Marshall.
