Australian world record holder Liesel Jones has been upstaged by Scottish swimmer Kirsty Balfour in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke heats swimming nine seconds outside the world time she set at the Games trials in February.

Balfour who won the heat in a time of 2:26.18 said, “I felt really good in the water, even before the race. Being relaxed and confident helped me.”

Jones was quick to dismiss criticism about her heat swim.

“I was pretty relaxed and the swim opened the system. It's still a bit of a roller-coaster ride, but I'll be back ready for tonight.”

“Having the best swim I can, the personal best will come. It’s not necessarily about world records.”

The final of the Women’s 200m Breaststoke is tonight at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre (MSAC).
