Swimming is among the oldest sports on the Commonwealth Games schedule, contested at every Games since they began in 1930. It remains an extremely popular sport for both recreation and competition within the Commonwealth.
Heats and finals will be held across six days of competition for the 42 gold medals on offer in the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre.
The competition in Melbourne include 50m, 100m and 200m events in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, as well as 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle events.
The 200m and 400m Individual Medley and the 4x100m and 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relay events will also be a feature of the meet.
The Swimming program will also include events for Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD), with athletes contesting the Men's and Women's 50m and 100m Freestyle, with winners determined by comparing the time of each swimmer to the world record time for their category of disability.
