Aquatics Diving Rules and Equipment

The judges score each dive without concern for difficulty as each dive has an assigned Degree of Difficulty to reward athletes for complicated skills.

Approach, take off, elevation, execution and entry are all assessed by the judges.

If a diver performs a dive other than the one announced, he or she gets no points.

A dive performed partially in the wrong position receives no more than 4.5 points from each judge.

One or two points will be deducted if a diver lifts his or her feet off the board before take-off from a standing dive.

Diving is only contested at heights of 1m and 3m springboards and the 10m platform.

The Springboard
The springboard is a flexible board which has a spring to assist the diver achieve elevation off the board.

The Platform
The 10m platform does not have a board and the diver has to create the spring themselves.

The pool depth can be variable, but must be at least 5 metres deep.

Jets of water can be seen sprayed on the water's surface during competition. This keeps the water surface the same for all competitors.
