Canada's Blythe Hartley dives for
her second gold.
Canada’s Blythe Hartley has won gold in the Women’s 3m Springboard, with a total of 690.05 points from the Final and Preliminary Round.
The Australian’s have taken silver and bronze, with Chantelle Newbery edging out team mate Kathryn Blackshaw, 681.30 to 629.00.
Hartley qualified in first position in the preliminary round after pulling off two spectacular dives.
The Canadian’s other medals include silver in the 1m Springboard at the Kuala Lumpur and Manchester Games.
"This morning didn't go that well, it is definitely a tough day. I've been practising my dives for the entire week," said Hartley. "Even though I didn't start very well today, I ended on a good note so I'm very happy with that.
"The Commonwealth Games is a good experience, so different to everything else. Everyone's so friendly, it's a phenomenal atmosphere."
Newbury was looking to add to her trophy cabinet after she won gold in the Synchronised 10m Platform with Loudy Tourky. In the Preliminary Round, Newbery qualified second, giving her a total of 325.55 points at the end of the round.
After her final dive, Newbury said "I'm really rapt that I actually did it. I've just got a mental block and I can't get over that. This was my 'bury the demons competition'.”
Melbourne-born Newbery won silver at the Kuala Lumpur Games in 1998 and is married to another Games diver, Robert, who won silver in the Men’s 3m Springboard.
Eighteen year old Blackshaw now has two bronze medals with the other coming from the 1m Springboard event. In the Preliminary Round she was ranked fourth scoring above 300 points and within reach of a medal.
Canadian Emilie Heymans won silver in this event in Manchester, as well as a third placing in the 1m Platform in these games, but finished seventh in this discipline.
Malaysia's Mun Yee Leong, who was sixth at the Manchester Games in this event, was forced to retire injured after a bone-jarring belly-flop in her second dive in the Preliminary Round.
