DISABILITY CLASSIFICATION T43/T54 (Paraplegia predominantly affecting lower limbs or leg amputees)

Eliza competed with prosthetic legs until 2001, when she decided to try wheelchair events instead.

Eliza fell asleep one night at sixteen and awoke with a stiff neck and a headache. After dozing for a while longer her mother discovered a black rash on her body. She was flown to the Royal Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed with meningicoccal disease. Her condition swiftly deteriorated, and she lapsed into a coma for over two and a half weeks. When she woke up a number of fingers plus her legs had been amputated.

Eliza received the Paralympian Young Female Athlete of the Year award in 2002.
