Injuries Nathan broke his pelvis in 1995. He broke his neck in 2003 in Altoona, USA after crashing out in a race.
Other Nathan is well known for his toughness and leadership. His toughness was exemplified in 1995, when he won a silver medal at the Oceania Championships with a broken pelvis.

His interests outside of cycling include listening to music (he plays lots of Aussie rock on his iPod), watching movies, going on holidays and going to the beach. He also likes to work on home improvement projects.

He temporarily retired from cycling in 1993 due to health problems, but returned to the sport in 1994. He came back with a bang and won a national title in the time trial.

He is a seven-time Australian time trial champion.
