Craig is a former Australian junior triathlon champion and was a member of the Victorian triathlon team in 1997 & 1998

Both of his parents are British and his father, Brian, played soccer for Wimbledon FC.

Craig's younger brother, Neil, is a member of the AIS basketball team

One of his training partners is Moss his pet dog a Flat Coated Retriever.

Craig has been looking forward to his match up with Benjamin Limo of Kenya since the two raced six months ago in Helsinki. At that event Limo took Gold and Craig defied the might of the African nations to secure the Bronze. Since then they have had what Craig calls a muck-around rivalry whenever they meet. When it appeared that Limo may not attend the Melbourne games Craig with Commonwealth Games official Maurie Plant encouraged Limo's manager Ricky Simms to persuade Limo to attend. Limo has recently been named in the Kenyan team. Craig wanted Limo in the race not for a chance at revenge but because he wants to race against the best in the world.
