Prior to entering athletics Kym was a member of the Junior WA Gymnastics team between 1993 and 1996.
She was identified by the Western Australia Institute of Sport.
Kym missed the final of the Pole Vault at the the Athens Olympics Games by just 10cm after clearing 4.30m in the preliminary round.
Kym trains under Alex Parnov, who also coaches Vicky Parnov, and previously coached former world record holder Emma George.
Kym enjoys going to the beach and spending time with children.
Kym's gold medal height of 4.62 metres in the final of the pole vault also netted her a new Games record.
