Injuries A broken arm he had previously sustained ended Mathew's gymnastics career.
Other He is a talented singer and also enjoys ballroom dancing.

He is also a qualified lifeguard and coaches with the Donnet Diving Club.

He started his career in gymnastics and reached state champion level three, but an arm injury forced him to consider diving as he could not compete on the rings.

A major career highlight for Mathew was winning Australia's first ever individual medal (bronze) in men's competition at the World Championships in 2001.
