Other Keisha-Dean trains at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in Samoa.

She wanted to be a Silver Fern when she was at high school, but she was keen to try something a bit different.

When she was 19, she would travel miles out of town to train twice a day while also studying for a national certificate in sports management.

She was awarded a Prime Minister's Sports Scholarship in 2001 in recognition of her ability to juggle a busy lifestyle, study and ambition to succeed in her sport.

She has won local and international weightlifting meets, was named 2001 Junior Maori Sportswoman of the Year, and travelled to Fiji, Nauru, Tonga, Australia, Greece and England in her lifting career.
