Other Emily trains as an Olympic-style weightlifter five to six times a week and coaches gymnastics ten to twelve hours a week - she describes herself as seldom in the bleachers and often in the game.

In January 2001, she won a gold medal at the Junior Canadian Weightlifting Championships in Winnipeg, followed by a silver at the Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships. She also received the award for the Best Junior Female Lifter at that event.

Although she always enjoyed training as a gymnast, she never liked competing. Her gymnastics coach and a friend persuaded her to try Olympic Style Weightlifting, and although reluctant at first, gave it a go and went in her first competition a few months later.

She has also been named the Yukon Weightlifting Athlete of the year and received a Yukon Government Award of Excellence for her gold medal at the Junior National Weightlifting Competition.

Emily is hoping to gain international competition experience at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and make some personal best lifts. Beyond Melbourne she is aiming to compete in the 2007 Pan Am Games.
