Injuries A foot injury kept Miel out of the sport for approximately two years. She made her comeback in 2003.
Other When she was about to retire from gymnastics, a weightlifting coach came to Miel's gym and asked if she would like to try his sport.

She took two years off to concentrate on school, as she was studying law at Osgoode Hall in Toronto.

She started weightlifting when she was 16 and won the gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in the 63kg class.

She trains at the University of Toronto and Sabaria Weightlifting School and is coached by Steve Sandor.

Miel's personal goal for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games is to put in a good total and to place in the highest ranking possible. Her goals beyond Melbourne are to compete at the World Championships, the Pan Am Games and to make the Canadian Olympic Team.
