Injuries Broken wrist and facial injuries suffered after a cycling accident on 31-Dec-2005.
Other Twelve weeks before the games Gordon was knocked off his bike while cycling to a new years eve party. He suffered deep facial cuts and a broken wrist. Gordon was angry because he felt the driver of the car must have deliberately knocked him off his bike. He said there was no one else on the road and he was riding on the left. Despite the setback to his Commonwealth Games preparation, Gordon remained determined to continue his good form and wants to take home a gold medal.

He quit cycling twice but came back both times after being picked up by professional teams. When he left the sport, he had to hold down a 'normal' job but he continued to train at nights and on weekends.

Gordon favourite place to race is in Europe, especially Belgium. He loves to cycle in Belgium because of the cobblestones, the strong winds and the bad weather. He has won four New Zealand Road Racing National Titles, including the most recent one in 2005. He joins a prestigious club of only three people who have one the title four times (the others are Jack Swart and Nick Carter). He says he loves wearing the national title jersey and looks forward to wearing it in 2006.
