RACV today announced at its Annual General Meeting that it will play an important support role in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

As the Official Sponsor for Automotive Club Membership and Services, RACV will assist the Games Workforce at 20 information booths around Melbourne and in regional venues, and have a presence in two major information guides which will help visitors find their way around Melbourne and Victoria during the Games.

Managing Director, Colin Jordan, said RACV was a proud Victorian organisation and was delighted to play its part in the successful operation of the Commonwealth Games.

“The 2006 Games will be one of Victoria’s finest moments. As an organisation that has been there for Victorians for more than 100 years, RACV is honoured to be involved,” he said.

“During the Games, more than 100 of our staff from around Victoria will offer transport, accommodation and sightseeing advice to the more than one million expected visitors to our State and the Games venues next March.”

The Minister for the Commonwealth Games, Justin Madden, said; “With so many people visiting the Games at either a competition session, non-ticketed road event, or a Festival Melbourne 2006 event, the expertise and support of such a wonderful Victorian organisation as the RACV will be greatly appreciated.”

Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Officer, John Harnden, said RACV’s involvement was an exciting addition to the services Melbourne and Victoria would be offering visitors and spectators.

“With more than a million guides being printed, and RACV staff working in the information booths, RACV’s involvement will be of tremendous value”, he said.
