19 Jan 06 04:09

19 January 2006

A huge gravity cube, the new Xbox 360 console, personalised stamps, a medal dais, athletes and celebrities will be just some of the people, products and performances featured at Interact, the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Sponsor Showcase located at Birrarung Marr.

Running for the entirety of the Games period from the 15 – 26 March, Interact will be home to displays from Xbox, Telstra, Australia Post, Cadbury Schweppes, Coates Hire, Accor Hotel Group, the Melbourne 2006 Goodwill Partner PLAN as well as the 1000m² official Melbourne 2006 Merchandise Superstore.

Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Officer, Mr John Harnden, said; “Interact is the result of our Games Family and associated organisations combining to create a fantastic array of interactive, educational and fun products and activities for all ages.”

“Along with the heroic sporting battles and the superb Cultural Festival, Interact at Birrarung Marr will be a Games experience not to be missed,” Mr Harnden said.

Birrarung Marr is located in the key pedestrian corridor between Federation Square and major Games venues such as the MCG, Rod Laver Arena and the Multi-Purpose Venue.  Interact will be spread over the lower, middle and upper terraces of the site and can be easily accessed from the new William Barak Bridge.  Entry to Interact is free.

The Games will be a unique opportunity to witness 4500 elite athletes from 71 nations taking part in the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006.
