A total of 39 gold medals will be decided in day five of competition at the Games.

Eleven of the 39 gold will be won in the pool. The Australian Swimming captain, Giaan Rooney, is vying for her first gold medal of the meet in the Women’s 50m Backstroke final, which she qualified for in Games record time.

The Athletics competition is headlined by the glamour events of the Games being decided in the Men’s, Women’s and EAD 100m finals. Australian hopes for a medal on the track on day four will be pinned on middle-distance superstar Craig Mottram in the Men’s 5,000m.

The Race Walks get underway at Docklands, whilst preliminary Basketball matches continue at regional venues.

The mixed team events in the Badminton competition is set for a dramatic climax with England and Malaysia playing-off for gold in the evening session.

Gold medals also will be decided in Lawn Bowls, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis and Weightlifting.
