The first day of Athletics competition sees the men's and women's Marathons wind through Melbourne.

'Super Sunday' of the Games has finally arrived and highlighting the day’s action will be the Men’s and Women’s Marathon and the commencement of the Athletics competition. The Marathon will wind through the streets of inner Melbourne culminating at the MCG where athletes will be greeted by a capacity crowd.

The team sports of Basketball, Hockey and Netball all continue preliminary qualification, while the Men’s and Women’s Double Trap Final will be contested at the Melbourne Gun Club in Lilydale.

The Semi Finals begin in the Squash competition at MSAC and tonight concludes the Track Cycling competition with the Women’s Individual Pursuit Final and the Men’s Team Sprint Final.

Action in the pool continues with a total of five finals being contested in the evening session which includes the Women’s 100m Butterfly Final.

The world’s fastest man, Asafa Powell of Jamaica, will step up to the Men’s 100m heats, in what is to be a fantastic inauguration to the Athletics competition with three gold medals decided in the first day.

Day 4 is truly set up to be a super Sunday.
