Australia Post Letter Link
Australian athletes Giaan Rooney, Josh Ross and Loudy Tourky celebrate Australia Post's Letter Link.
School children from all over
Australia
are spurring on their Games heroes by writing letters of support and inspiration to the athletes.
Australia Post has launched Letter Link, a Commonwealth Games initiative that urges primary and secondary school students from around
Australia
to write personal letters of encouragement to their favourite athletes.
For over a decade Letter Link has helped motivate the sporting elite at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. The Letter Link
process not only provides a tool for students to write to their favourite sports hero but also encourages children to put into practice their letter writing and literacy skills.
Swimming champion, Giaan Rooney says, “There is so much excitement and tension before we compete, reading the thousands of letters reminds us that Australians are behind us all the way and reinforces why we love to represent our country at the Games”.
This year Australian Hockey hero, Brent Livermore will be competing in this third Commonwealth Games and he agrees with Giaan.
“It’s great getting our letters. The kids write fantastic messages and the whole team gets very excited when the Postie delivers the fan mail to the Village each day”, he said.
Australia Post expects to deliver tonnes of good luck letters from thousands of children and sports fans of all ages throughout the games. It’s easy to show your support, just write a letter to your favourite athlete, attach a 50 cent stamp and address the envelope to:
