With just 5 days of competition gone, Australia are well on track to achieve their ambitious Games target of 208 medals with 88 gold. The competitors might be centre stage at the Athletics at the MCG, but occasionally a small mechanical ‘toy’ steals the show as it picks up and returns competitors’ javelins. Early indications suggest Melbourne is on track to receive 90,000 visitors from overseas and interstate. The boosted visitor numbers are expected to inject an estimated $270 million into the State’s economy. Records continued to fall throughout Day Two of competition - nine Commonwealth Games records were smashed and a huge number of excited fans attended last night’s Rugby 7s matches.
