Goodwill Partner Plan

Plan logoPlan, Goodwill Partner of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will showcase at Birrarung Marr with an indoor/outdoor display.  The showcase is designed to engage visitors in an interactive environment.

The outdoor area will feature a replica African mud hut and a water pump, highlighting the distance children and women walk in order to collect water in developing Commonwealth countries. A stage area will host special guests throughout the Games, including Plan Ambassadors Jamie Durie and middle distance runner Craig Mottram, and English swimmer Mark Foster amongst others.

Inside the marquee an interactive display will introduce Plan’s Goodwill Partnership and take visitors on a journey of the key issues facing children in developing countries of the Commonwealth.

Based on the four principles of children’s human rights, a combination of educational banners, film and interactive displays will be available.

The marquee will also offer an inspiring cinematic experience  A series of films including ‘Hear My Voice’ (a film series by Plan’s Youth Media clubs), the Commonwealth Games submissions by attending Youth Media reporters from Ghana, India and Pakistan, and Jamie Durie’s documentary on his recent visit to Uganda will screen.

Victorian teenagers are also involved with youth groups in Strathbogie, Melbourne City, Ballarat and Monash being partnered under the Adopt-A-Second-Team scheme with Plan-assisted youth media clubs in Ghana, India and Pakistan. The Victorian youth groups have also prepared digital stories that will be screened along with those from the Plan-assisted youth groups.

Plan’s showcase at Birrarung Marr will offer something inspiring and enlightening for the whole family.  It will offer all locals and visitors to Melbourne the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for the Commonwealth Games by bringing benefit to communities in developing Commonwealth countries.
