The Sounds of the Pacific
From New Zealand, The Solomon Islands
Starring: Te Matarae I Orehu (New Zealand), Tolegeu (the Solomon Islands) and Te Vaka (New Zealand)
The powerful rhythms and uplifting island sounds of the Pacific will fill the Bowl when this all-star lineup of music and dance artists from our own region takes the stage. Feel the awe-inspiring physical power of an authentic Maori
haka
in action when the Te Matarae I Orehu dancers kick start the evening with their complex dances of passion, vigour and identity. This 26-strong troupe of Maori
kapa haka
dancers is most definitely the real thing! The adrenaline continues to flow with the powerful panpipe rhythms and high-energy dances of the Solomon Islands' Tolegeu. And the evening rounds off with the sizzling fusion music of Te Vaka, one of hottest groups in the Pacific. Members from all over the South Pacific - including Tokelau, Tuvalu, Samoa and the Cook Islands – bring their own Island flavours to the red-hot music and dance of this internationally-acclaimed company. With their tribal, powerful and rootsy sounds, the twelve musicians and dancers of Te Vaka have a huge international following in this region and beyond.
