In the CBD

Festival Melbourne2006 logoDuring the Games, Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) is home to a dazzling array of contemporary visual arts exhibitions and projects, from one end of the city to the other.

Curated especially for Festival Melbourne2006, the exhibition program celebrates the breadth of arts practice and diversity of cultures that characterise the seventy-one nations that comprise the Commonwealth.

From the Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne to RMIT Gallery on Swanston Street; from the Koorie Heritage Trust Cultural Centre in King Street to a cluster of galleries at 45 Flinders Lane; from ACMI and NGV Australia in Federation Square to the State Library of Victoria and the Immigration Museum – the exhibition program encompasses a vast range of mediums, including painting, textiles, craft, design, sculpture, photography and multimedia work.

Don't miss 100 Points of Light, a city-wide public art installation glowing in Melbourne’s laneways, alleys and shopwindows.  Or the four performance artists of the Urban Dream Capsule, who are living their day-to-day lives in full view in the Myer Bourke Street windows for the duration of the Games. And there are live performances in the City Square, alongside fantastic program of events and exhibitions at Federation Square and Melbourne Museum.
