Federation Square

Festival Melbourne2006 logo

Situated in the heart of the city directly opposite Flinders Street Station, Federation Square is home to the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the Melbourne Visitor Centre.

During the Games, Federation Square will be a major Festival hub with a Commonwealth Games Live Site operating alongside the Games Information Centre. In between catching live sporting events and highlights on the Live Site big screen, you can enjoy a world of live music and theatre, including South Africa’s cutting edge Third World Bunfight in The House of the Holy Afro.

Visit the spectacular 2006 Contemporary Commonwealth exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. Or learn a dance from a different Commonwealth country each weeknight with Dancing in the Square.

Artists from around the Commonwealth will discuss their work in a series of Lunchtime Forums at BMW Edge. You can celebrate Victoria’s Indigenous culture by visiting Welcome Place at the Atrium, which will be promoting our State’s unique cultural heritage, traditional and contemporary culture and Victoria’s history from an Indigenous perspective. Or check out the wonderful range of authentic Indigenous products from across Victoria in the Tribal Expressions Business Showcase, also at the Atrium.

You can party on at Federation Square each night after the last sporting event has finished, with late night live music from 10.30pm. Radio 774 ABC Melbourne will be broadcasting live from Federation Square for the duration of the Games.
